Greenstone Digital Library Software

Introduction

This workshop will promote the development and sharing of digital library collections using the freely available Greenstone Digital Library software. The aim is to train trainers, and participants are expected to promote digital library collection development by conducting similar programmes in their countries.

  • 11:00-12:00 Platforms, installation, configuration; accessing example collections
  • 12:00-13:00 Lunch
  • 13:00-15:00 Lab: Installing Greenstone, browsing collections
  • 15:00-15:15 Tea
  • 15:15-17:00 Librarian interface: Building collections

Day 2

  • 08:30-10:15 Lab: Building collections with the Librarian interface
  • 10:15-10:30 Tea
  • 10:30-12:00 Librarian interface: Adding and using metadata
  • 12:00-13:00 Lunch
  • 13:00-14:45 Lab: Adding and using metadata]
  • 14:45-15:00 Tea
  • 15:00-17:00 Librarian interface: Advanced features

Day 3

  • 08:30-10:15 Lab: Configuring collections
  • 10:15-10:30 Tea

From the rest of Day 3 we will be flexible about the content, there are several labs and topics we can cover:

  • How building works; bibliography collections
  • Multilingual support; interface languages; Niupepa
  • Lab: Heterogeneous Documents and Multimedia
  • Customizing your collection, creating a CD-ROM
  • Lab: Customizing your collection, creating a CD-ROM
  • 15:15-16:00 Concluding session
