E kore matou e whai kupu mo te ki e kiia nei kia mahia nga whenua Maori, kia puta he Karauna on Karaati mo a te Maori whenua. Ko nga Ture e kiia nei hei ara mo nga tikanga mahi a Te Pakeha. The Te Wananga. Published every Saturday. SATURDAY, OCTOBER 28, 1876. TE WANANGA. ment alone. We say that we have suffered through that Go- vernment, and therefore that these persons who have caused us trouble should cease. Look at the laws of Sir Donald ; M'Lean, introduced into Parliament to destroy our Island i Aotearoa. Friends, we object to these laws of Sir Donald M'Lean's 1 Not one of these new laws was concurred in by us, but we disapproved of the whole of them. This is a quo- tation, from Scripture : " O wretched man that I am who shall deliver me from the body of this death?" And we now use it to you. I now pray to you like as I pray to the Lord : " Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name * * thy will be done on earth, as it is in Heaven '. Give us this day eternal life, may thy works ever continue in this world ! Amen." Sufficient are these words of approval of Mr. Whitaker's statements. From all of us your friends. TAKARANGI OTAOTA. That is to Henare Tomoana :—Friend, put the following into the WANANGA, so that our friends may see it. These are the words. We. the people iu the centre of the North Island. support, or will uphold the words of J. Sheehan. M.H.R., Taiaroa, M.H.R., Karaitiana Takamoana. M.H.R.. and Hoani Nahe, M.HR. We the following Generic tribes Uriohau, Ngatirango, Ngatiwhatua, Te Taou. Ngaoho, and Te Roroa. condemn the laws of 1873, because those laws were not made known in the days of the year 1873. and hence we were not able to see them then, and at that time too. and to put on record our words of condemnation of them. We have only now in 1876 seen those laws, and we now see that they are the very acts of murder, these hidden laws of Sir D. M'Lean and the Government. Now hearken TO these words. The words of the Government are like fire. When a fire is burning, a man will not jump thereon, as he is aware that death is there. If a man be out ou The sea in his canoe, he will not jump into the sea. as he knows that death is there. Even so, as in the case of this law (the new Native Lands Bill by Sir D. M.'Lean). men will not wish to follow it, as they know that death is in it. Now we wish to say that we fully support these above-mentioned members, that they may be strong to conduct those matters, which will be for the good of all the people who live on this (the North Island.) Enough. from the tribes who have been given above. That is from all the chiefs of those before-mentioned tribes of Kaipara. HE PANUITANGA. Kei a matou nga mea tino pai rawa, atu mo nga tangata Reihi Hoiho. He TERA, he PARAIRE, me nga mea katoa mo te Hoiho. Ko te utu o aua mea, Lo in rawa iho i te uru mo . aua tu mea i nga tini TOA i NEPIA Te mea i iti ai te utu. he mea no matou kia hokona aua mea, kia watea ai te TOA mo nga TAONGA ko atu. 28.
