Describes Maori land sales when the purchaser and sellers are outside of `the Ring'. Discusses measures taken by purchasers to ensure that information is not leaked from the Land Purchase Office, which may damage their sale, and includes a report from a committee appointed to look into one particular land deal between Hon. H.R. Russell and Mr Kinross, the Commissioner of Crown Lands, currently under investigation by Parliament.

Discusses a journey he took by road between Ōmahu and Whanganui, praising the quality of the roads.

The Editor replies: that more people should look upon roads and railways in the same light as Ruka does because they add value to the land and are necessary improvements.
